How To Remove Hyperlink Automatically In Excel

When you copy or input a url or an email address text into the excel cell, it will add a hyperlink automatically. Sometimes this is useful, but for most times this is not useful at all. This article will tell you how to remove the hyperlink and how to disable auto hyperlinking in excel settings.

1. Remove Existing Hyperlinks.

  1. Select one or multiple excel cells which contain hyperlink text.
  2. Right-click the excel cell selection area.
  3. Then click the Remove Hyperlink menu item in the popup menu list to remove the hyperlink in the excel cell.

2. Do Not Add Hyperlink When Paste URL Or Email Text.

  1. Copy a url or email text into the clipboard.
  2. Select one excel cell ( do not double click the excel cell to enter input text mode ) where you want to paste the text to.
  3. Right-click the excel cell and click the Paste Special… menu item in the popup menu list.
  4. It will popup the Paste Special dialog. The Paste radio button on the left side is checked by default, you can select text encoding format on the right side.
  5. Click the OK button, then the cell url text will not contain a hyperlink.

3. Disable Excel Auto Hyperlinking Settings.

  1. The reason for auto hyperlinking in the excel cell is because the default setting for auto hyperlinking is enabled. We can disable it to avoid auto hyperlinking when we input more url or email text.
  2. Click the excel File —> Options menu item.
  3. Click the Proofing menu item on the popup dialog left side.
  4. Then click the AutoCorrect Options… button on the right side AutoCorrect options section to open the AutoCorrect dialog window.
  5. In the AutoCorrect dialog window, click the AutoFormat As You Type tab and uncheck the Internet and network paths with hyperlinks checkbox, click the OK button to save the changes.
  6. Now when you input a url or an email address in the excel cell again, it will not add the hyperlink at all.
