How To Find Where Are Chrome Extensions Stored

In today’s digital age, web browsers have become an essential tool for many people. One of the most popular web browsers is Google Chrome, which has a vast array of extensions available for download. These extensions provide users with additional functionality and customization options, making the browsing experience more enjoyable and efficient.

However, sometimes users may face an issue where they cannot find the installed folder of a Google Chrome web browser extension. This can be frustrating, especially if the user needs to locate a specific file or folder within the extension’s directory.

In this article, we will explore the reasons why this issue may occur, and provide some solutions to help users locate the installed folder of their Google Chrome web browser extension.

1. How To Fix Can Not Find Google Chrome Web Browser Extension Installed Folder Issue?

1.1 The Folder Is Hidden.

  1. The first reason why a user may not be able to find the installed folder of their Google Chrome web browser extension is that the folder may be hidden.
  2. By default, some folders on a computer are hidden to protect them from accidental deletion or modification.
  3. To check if the folder is hidden, the user can open File Explorer on their Windows computer and click on the “View” tab.
  4. They can then check the “Hidden items” box to reveal any hidden files or folders.
  5. If the folder is hidden, the user can unhide it by right-clicking on the folder and selecting “Properties“.
  6. They can then uncheck the “Hidden” box and click “Apply” to save the changes.

1.2 The Extension Is Not Installed In The Default Location.

  1. Another reason why a user may not be able to find the installed folder of their Google Chrome web browser extension is that the extension may be installed in a different location than the default location.
  2. When a user installs a Google Chrome web browser extension, it is stored in a specific folder on their computer.
  3. However, the location of this folder may vary depending on the version of Google Chrome being used and the operating system the user is running.
  4. To find the installed folder of your Google Chrome web browser extension, you can try searching for the extension’s name in the search bar of your computer’s file explorer.
  5. You can also try navigating to the following directory: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions, replacing “username” with your actual username.
  6. If you still can not find the extension installed folder, you can input the URL chrome://version/ in google chrome web browser ULR input box.
  7. Then it will list all the chrome version information in the page.
  8. Find the item Profile Path in the web page, and get it’s value.
  9. The value of the Profile Path is just where the google chrome user data saved data.
  10. In general the profile path is something like C:\Users\<user-name>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default.
  11. But maybe the profile path is something different like C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Profile 1
  12. And you can find the google chrome extension folder in the Extensions sub folder below the above folder.
